15th Annual POINSETTIA POWER! goes virtual to fund increased demand for Meals on Wheels
The Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center is putting a new twist on a classic with Poinsettia Power! Live Online! The annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels is going virtual in an exciting, interactive livestream format that will bring the fun and spirit of this beloved event straight to attendees’ homes.
For 15 years, the funds raised by the annual holiday bazaar, luncheon and fashion show have been essential to ensuring Martin County’s low-income, homebound seniors do not have to wait hungry for government-funded Meals on Wheels.
The Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center had to postpone its 6th annual Family Caregiver Workshop originally slated for April 3, 2020. After months of careful planning, the Workshop is back in a new virtual format that will air live from the Kane Center on Friday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m.
“Caring for a loved one with a memory disorder is never easy, much less during a global pandemic,” said Donna True, LCSW, Program Development and Outreach Coordinator for the Council on Aging at the Kane Center. “Now more than ever it is important for us to be able to offer advice and ideas that caregivers can easily translate into their everyday lives.”
The virtual workshop will feature the real-world tips and tricks caregivers have come to expect from the Kane Center’s annual event in a condensed, ninety-minute version that family caregivers can enjoy safely from their own homes.
Council on Aging at the Kane Center Announces Phased Re-Opening Plans for Programs Suspended Due to COVID-19
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, the Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center has continued to serve the community’s vulnerable seniors through home-delivered meals, primary medical care, free shopping assistance, telephone reassurance and counseling, in-home care, and much more. As Gov. Ron DeSantis rolls out his Safe, Smart, Step-by-Step Plan to reopen Florida, the Council has heeded the recommendation to encourage seniors to remain safer at home. Beginning Friday, June 5, Florida moved into Phase 2 of the plan, which lifts some of the recommended restrictions on socialization for seniors.
